Working with Team

In last 4-5 Years of my career, I have been through roles with intensive people management responsibilities. Its difficult to manage in circumstances when the need of the hour is to give more than 100% & salvage a situation and at the same time have a team member who is probably misfit or has attitude or other such issues. One of such situations years ago, got me a wonderful learning. Here is a brief comment from my manager that I cannot forget. He said something like this. What do you when you have a slow child? You don't give up, right?

What followed is a paradigm shift in my approach. I have found it very helpful to have a positive attitude in the ability of every member to deliver. As they say - it shows up in your eyes. So in most cases, I see such members reacting positively and I have also seen some pleasant turnarounds.

Leadership Lessons by Gen. Colin Powell

Again, something I received really long back...about 10 years before. Interesting as well inspiring thoughts on Leadership. Worth reading & reading again.

Story of a Geese

Someone shared this long back...about 10 years before. Interesting description of the way Geese Fly & how their team work can be of learning to us.

Personality Type

Recently completed a comprehensive course on Project Management. Basically, I am gearing up to apply for IBM Certification on Sr. Project Manager and this requires lots of prerequisites. This Training was part of that. I have completed all Prerequisites and now need to complete Certification package and formally apply.

While I was studying, learned something new about Personality Types. There is a Myers & Briggs model & it categorizes personality types based on preferences.

Another known but worth repeating observation. I was wanting to do this Training for last 2 years but finally managed now. Basically, this Class Room Training again had prerequisites to be completed like eLearning courses to be completed and exam to be given on-line. I finally managed to do this only when I took leave (Paid) from office for 3 days. This repeats my experience while getting a PMI's PMP Certification in 2007, for which had sacrificed my Annual Vacation and of course it was worth it.
